Galle’s old town and fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its streets and buildings bring together European colonial planning and South Asian traditions, within walls that follow the shape of the coastline.
Galle rewards a day on foot with very little hurry. Make a loose plan, turn down a side street, stop for something to eat and return to the ocean when the afternoon light softens.
